From The Bride: May of 2008, my roommates and I decided to throw a pre-summer/end-of-school year party, celebrating another year completed. Little did I know, that night would change my life forever. When I first saw Blake from across the room, butterflies entered my stomach like I was crushing for the first time ever. I guess he felt the same way because he left his friends to come talk to me. Eventually, he asked me to play beer pong against him. How romantic, right? He still says till today that he let me win that game but all he did was let me go first. Whatever it was, sparks flew across that table. We continued partying separately that night, but still keeping our eyes on each other. When he kissed me good night, I told myself to keep it cool a million times, considering I just got out of a long term relationship, and didn’t feel comfortable jumping into another. I didn’t talk to him again for a few weeks after that night, but when we reconciled, I knew he was the one. We literally spent every minute with each other for a few months and essentially “moved in” at each other’s apartments soon after. It took a few years but we made the commitment and actually moved in with each other. After that, everything became a whirlwind. We got a boxer puppy together. We moved to a different state after college. We bought a house. We even had a baby together. After the birth of our daughter, Harper, and 9 years of being asked when we were getting married, we finally decided to make that commitment.

From college drama to family and financial issues, we have supported each other every step of the way. Even though there were many moments where we wanted to give up, we were always there to help guide one another through the hurdles. I’m not saying our relationship has been perfect. If anything, it’s far from it, but it has helped both of us grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. And now, 11 years later, on September 1, 2019, we celebrated one of the best days of our lives. With support from our friends and family, we made the final commitment to take care of each other for life. We may have done life backwards or different than most people, but this is our love story, and it’s my favorite story.
