Christian and I met on November 5, 2017, at a surprise birthday party for my cousin. The two of them had worked together for several years, and although I had heard his name in passing, we had never met. My mom and I rode to the party together, and when we pulled in there was this random guy standing outside his truck looking a little lost. Naturally, we started talking to him, realized who he was, and he followed us into the house. I noticed him watching me the whole time we were there, but I just kinda brushed it off. When he left, my cousin's grandma even asked why we didn't leave together. She honestly thought we were there with each other since we came in at the same time. Everyone laughed it off, and I assumed I'd never see him again. Fast forward to Christmas that year, my cousin mentioned at our family get-together that the guy from the party wanted my number. At this point, I had been single for several years and was, frankly, tired of people trying to set me up with someone. I was content with my life and just wasn't looking for a relationship. Despite all that, I said he could go ahead and give it to him. We texted each other for about a month but never went out. One day, we just stopped talking. I was used to this happening with other guys, and thought, "oh well, it just wasn't meant to be." For the next three months, he would cross my mind now and then, but there was no way I was ever going to break down and text him first (stubborn, I know). I bet my mom asked me every other day why I wouldn't talk to him, and I would tell her over and over to just leave me alone about him. I was at work sometime in early April, and I got a text message from Christian. Literally, all it said was "hey". I can't really remember exactly, but I know I waited several hours to text him back. I honestly debated on talking to him at all, but for some reason I did. Little did I know, he had agonized for hours over that one-word text because he had regretted the fact that we never went on a date a few months before. So on April 13, 2018, we went on our first date and have been almost inseparable since. I know it sounds cliche and cheesy, but I somehow knew from about two weeks in that he was the one. As we got to know each other, we realized how many mutual people we knew. It's crazy how close we were to meet, but we didn't until God knew we were ready. We got engaged in September, and saying yes was one of the best things I've ever done. Words fail me when I try to describe our relationship, and the love I have for him. He is so selfless and compassionate and completely calm when I'm coming apart at the seams. He takes care of me in ways my independent self didn't even realize I needed, and I promise I'm not half as good a person as he is. I know I'll spend forever thanking God for sending me my perfect match, even when I wasn't looking. Now, exactly one year to the day from our first date, I'll walk down the aisle to my forever. I have no doubt that I'll never regret it, and I can't wait to spend our lives together with God at the center of our marriage. And there's no doubt, we'll always leave parties together from now on.
