From The Bride: In January of 2017, Matthew decided that he was going to become involved in church and work on his relationship with the Lord. He had attended service at my home church with his mamaw before, so that was the church he felt led to attend. Every Sunday I noticed him, and I was proud of him for taking that step of faith. I had known of Matthew and knew that he was going through a difficult time; it made my heart happy to see him turning to the Lord for the peace he needed. A few weeks went by and on January 15, 2017 after Sunday morning service he and his father showed up at my front door to speak to my dad. Not even 10 minutes after they left I had a notification on my phone- it was a message from Matthew. He just wanted to say hey and tell me how much he appreciated all that my family had done for him during the passing of his grandmother, but of course that conversation never ended. We’ve talked everyday since. After that simple message, we became the closest of friends. We still joke at me labeling him as a “family friend” for the first few months as I felt that I was not ready to be in a relationship and needed to pray before making moves that we had no business making on our own, and I definitely didn’t want to run off my new bestie. Over time, things started to become apparent to the both of us (or me, Matthew was pretty determined from the get-go) that we were way more than just good pals. I knew that God had made him just for me and sent him to me when both of our hearts were ready for each other. Eventually he began sitting by my side every church service, coming to all the family dinners, the goodnight messages began, trips to play ball turned into dinner dates, we spent every possible moment together, and then the “I love you” slipped out of his mouth. The rest is pretty much history. He’s still my very best friend, but he’s so much more than I could’ve ever imagined on that day I looked outside and saw him standing on my doorstep. He’s my better half, accountability partner, personal comedian, biggest supporter, and I’m blessed to have him as my husband that will lead me and always point me towards Christ.
